Surgery for pilonidal disease is called a “Pilonidal Cystectomy”: A Pilonidal Cystectomy is a minimally invasive procedure typically performed in an outpatient basis in our Surgery Center. Although there a several techniques that can be utilized to surgical treat a pilonidal cyst, there are two primary techniques FCRS utilizes: A “cystotomy” technique, where the cyst is opened, cleaned, and allowed to heal from the inside out, and the “Bascom” technique, where an incision is made off the midline to open and empty the cyst.
